Thank a lot guys! I appreciate you pointed out the meaning according to the old 
tradition. One more question:

As for "today" custom, how do I address my great great grand master "虛雲和尚" 
with the proper title? What I understand is the term "和尚" is used by those 
outside the buddhist tradition. I don't think it is a title at all in North 
American culture. We alway address any one by title, calling name is unacceptable.

If I'm not mistaken, it is not polite or even insulting to call some of your 
masters in the same lineage or even a monk in any tradition as "和尚". It might 
upset my master if I call his great grand master "和尚".
